The canadian association for renewable energies was incorporated in 1998 to promote feasible applications of renewable energy in Canada. Its first initiative in 1997 was to develop a daily electronic news service, TRENDS in Renewable Energies, which later teamed with Solar Access and (in 2002) with the Oxford-based publisher of the official ISES magazine to produce the weekly global news service for 28,000 subscribers to Refocus Weekly.
There are three objectives of c.a.r.e.:
-
Promote greater awareness of the benefits of renewable energies to Canada’s economy, environment and society;
-
Advance the adoption of renewable energies in all sectors and in all feasible applications
-
Undertake research that will optimize renewable energy technologies.
Membership is open to those interested in furthering the above objects. The bylaws provide for three classes of membership: Institutional (ten votes); Corporate (two votes); and Personal (one vote). c.a.r.e. receives no funding from NRCan, and the past six years of service have been financed through contracts with foreign and domestic clients, along with membership fees.
